5 Years in Iraq… We Thank Our Troops

As Sister Toldjah so eloquently put it, we thank the members of our armed services, their families, and their employers. We can never show you the appreciation you truly deserve, and we can never make up for the cost in your personal sacrifice, the sacrifice your families have endured, the challenges of returning to civilian life (for those in the Reserves/National Guard).  I too have family in Iraq, and can understand some of the stress you and your families are experiencing.

And we will never be able to replace the nearly 4,000 American lives lost. I will always be grateful to those that have died for my freedom, and I pray for the families who have lost loved ones in this conflict. You will …

Silver Star Goes To Woman Serving In Afghanistan

Silver StarFor shielding her injured comrades and treating them while under fire, a woman medic in the 82nd Army Airborne Division will be awarded the Silver Star. Spc. Monica Lin Brown, a 19-year-old from Texas, is will receive the award for showing valor by saving the lives of 5 other soldiers after a road-side bomb attack left them injured and insurgents opened fire on the group as they moved about 500 yards away from the fighting. Only one other women has received the Silver Star for actions since World War II.

It’s getting close to the time that we admit that women can indeed fight alongside men, and can handle the stress and challenges of front-line duty. The actions in Afghanistan and Iraq have made …

How To Treat A Soldier

Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.

John 15:13 – New International Version

You’ve heard some of these stories in the past, I’m sure. A uniformed Army Private boards a commercial flight somewhere in the US and the entire plane erupts in applause and appreciation; an elderly veteran is warmly welcomed and offered the best seat in a restaurant; a women returns from a 9 month tour with her National Guard unit in Afghanistan and has her job available to her again, and is given opportunities to share with her fellow employees the pain and the successes she saw; state upon state making sure every loss of a native son or daughter fallen in battle is …

Obama Will Hang Us Out To Die

Those of you that are seriously considering voting for Obama because he’s “more conservative” than McCain, take a look at this and tell me this is what you think we need.  Obama will hand our interests over to foreign nations before protecting our land.

Man, that gives me the chills.

Follow-up on DeKalb Shootings

I’m still a little overwhelmed by the events of Valentine’s Day.

People died or were injured and should not have been. It never should have happened. As with any other shooting of this type, we will have days of analysis about the drugs that this young man stopped taking, about the easy availability of the weapons he used, and why stronger measures need to be put in place to limit the availability of these weapons from unstable members of the public.

What a bunch of nonsense.

I was hit with a surprisingly poignant question from my wife after the death toll was first announced:

Can I learn to fire a gun?

Wow. That hit me like a ton of bricks.

One thing about your friendly …

Toledo, Who’s Gonna Fight For You?

As unbelievable as it may seem, yet another US city just can’t seem to get it.

First Berkeley, CA, tries to block additional federal funding for a Marine Recruiting Center with text that said the Marines were “uninvited and unwelcome intruders” (a stance the Mayor of that left-handed city has since backed down on).

24506pmarines-posters.jpgNow, lovely Toledo Ohio won’t permit the urban exercises planned by a company of Marines based in Grand Rapids, Michigan, in downtown Toledo.

The Toledo Police were aware of the plans, but evidently Mayor Finkbeiner didn’t find out until the last minute. They’ve been conducting these exercises in Toledo since 2004 (granted, the last time was May 2006). Still, how in the world can the mayor be surprised? Better yet, the …

The State of the Union – No Response

I’m going to keep it simple.  Bush did a great job.  Clear well thought-out plans to address a number of our country’s current issues.  I’m sorry, and I know they’re paid to be Democrats and all, but do the Democrats had to act like they were just barely putting up with his presence?  Hillary looked like she was miserable.  Obama looked thoughtful (kind of like how Kennedy looked, except Ted looked like he was thinking about gas).   My opinion is that Congress needs to work with Bush on the recommendations he made for education, health care, military funding, elimination of earmarks, and holding down taxes.

What I really don’t get is, why the pathetic Democratic response?  Kathleen Sebelius, Governor of Kansas, had nothing concrete to …
