BitHead provides an excellent featured piece on this important day. Please read it… you’ll be glad you did.
This is a day that brings together the best of who we are as a secular nation, and the best of who we are as servants of God.
Though we struggle in our thought of independence to the extent that many outwardly disdain acknowledgment of God, as a whole (and to a greater extent historically) we still find ourselves taking the time to recognize that we have a good life here in the United States. That Providence (if we see it as such) has delivered us to the most blessed time of human intellect, engineering and liberty, is undeniable in my opinion.
Which leads us to explaining …

Britt Hume a couple nights ago:
A traditional Thanksgiving meal between two elementary schools in Claremont, California, has parents in an uproar over costumes.
The kindergarteners have long celebrated the holiday by dressing up as pilgrims and Native Americans and taking turns visiting the other school to share in a holiday feast, but parents this year are divided over what the costumes represent and whether they should be allowed at all.
Michelle Raheja, whose daughter is a kindergarten student, wrote to her teacher, “It’s demeaning. I’m sure you can appreciate the inappropriateness of asking children to dress up like slaves (and kind slave masters), or Jews (and friendly Nazis) or members of any other racial minority group who has struggled in our nation’s history… There

Two big hits on prominant families this week.
Mr. Shawshank
One is Morgan Freeman. You may recall he was in an automobile accident earlier this week and was in serious condition. He was released later in the week after surgery with shoulder damage and a broken arm and elbow. According to Fox News, Freeman and his wife Myrna Colley-Lee have been separated since last December.
As far as I know, this was a huge surpise to most of the world. Of course, being in an accident with a lady friend in the car can lead to speculation, but I don’t anyone was ready to start accusing Freeman of infidelity. It seems she was a friend that had simply offered him a ride home.
I’m …

This morning I got a chance to see some clips from a new movie that will be in theaters on September 26, 2008. It’s called “Fireproof“. Here’s a synopsis from the web site:
At work, inside burning buildings, Capt. Caleb Holt lives by the old firefighter’s adage: Never leave your partner behind. At home, in the cooling embers of his marriage, he lives by his own rules.
Growing up, Catherine Holt always dreamed of marrying a loving, brave firefighter…just like her daddy. Now, after seven years of marriage, Catherine wonders when she stopped being “good enough” for her husband.
Regular arguments over jobs, finances, housework, and outside interests have readied them both to move on to something with more sparks.
As the couple

House Republicans made the right choice today when they helped hold the line on Bush’s veto of the bill intended to ban waterboarding.
Democrats are resting on the wrong principle here in trying to protect the rights of terrorists. They are convinced they are on the side of protecting everyone in an effort to do the right thing.
Or, they are simply trying to use this issue as a means to gain public sympathy in hopes of seating a Democrat in the Oval Office again. And to keep their own seats in Congress.
At the same time, we have a very real issue to continue to monitor when it comes to the rights of innocent Americans. And it’s not just an issue of whether we …

New York Governor Eliot Spitzer today confirmed he met with a prostitute in a Washington hotel room. He apologized for his actions and said little more. He did not say if he planned to resign.
“I apologize first and most importantly to my family. I apologize to the public, to whom I promised better,” he said.
He’s clearly a disappointment to everyone now. His family, his state, and his party (he’s a Democrat).
It’s going to be really easy to throw darts at this guy, and I’m going to resist that. He needed to apologize. He needs to resign. What he did was wrong and corrupts the public trust.
However, what he did, as wrong as it is, is a symptom of a core problem …
