…the price of oil that is.  Down another few dollars to $117.22.  In the last few weeks, the price has dropped $30/bbl, or 20%.  I’m convinced it’s because Republicans and the nation’s PEOPLE are up in arms and pressing the majority party to do the right thing… just pressing the case for domestic drilling, in a dramatic symbolic coup, is of such substance to those watching… everyone watching is anticipating that Pelosi will give in, or have to deal with an all-out party rebellion.  Those Democrats that are up for reelection in November should be getting pretty nervous, and hopefully their constituents are letting them have it while they spend August campaigning.

While Democrats are enjoying themselves or campaigning (or both) at home, Republicans continue the aforementioned work of protesting the month-long vacation without acting at all to address the energy economic crisis as they should.  Thanks to House Minority leader John Boehner for keeping a steady stream of information available at his web site!  And at HotAir, Allahpundit let us know that Boehner has invited Democrats that have said they support domestic drilling to join them in Washington.   After this item appeared at Politico, Boehner’s web site replied:

House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) today issued the following statement in response to an article in today’s Politico that suggests Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) has secretly signaled to rank-and-file House Democratic lawmakers that they should feel free to portray themselves publicly as pro-drilling if it helps them politically:

“My message to Democratic lawmakers is this: if you’re really for increased American energy production, then prove it by putting it in writing. Sign the discharge petitions House Republicans are circulating that will force votes on energy legislation Speaker Pelosi refuses to bring to the floor. And sign onto the American Energy Act, our ‘all of the above’ plan to increase conservation, innovation, and American energy production, instead of doing the Speaker’s bidding by voting against bringing it to a vote. If you aren’t willing to put it in writing, you’re fooling no one. You’re siding with the Speaker of the Drill-Nothing Congress and radical special interests that favor higher gas prices, at the expense of energy-strapped American families.”

“This cynical strategy is disgustingly dishonest. Without any real solutions to help Americans who are struggling with record-high gas prices, it appears the Democratic leadership has hit on a new plan: deceive. Deceive the press, deceive its members, and deceive the American people. Democratic members have a ‘pass’ from their leaders to talk about drilling at home, while the liberal Democratic leadership – which is beholden to special interests that want higher gas prices – plays ‘rope-a-dope’ back in Washington, ensuring there is no vote to help the American people before November. It’s cynical, dishonest, and wrong – and it won’t work.”

I think a great slogan would be “If you won’t vote for us, we won’t vote for you!”.  I think that could most clearly articulate how most Americans are feeling today.  And frankly, we need to find a way to make a similar statement to the media… look at this garbage from MSNBC, and this (Hat Tip to Thespis Journal)… essentially saying: “Forget about what’s good information for Americans, let’s stick to what’s good for Democrats.”

I will say this, we can’t really keep complaing about $4.00 a gallon gasoline since the price is now moving closer to $3.50… but that’s still far too high and though this economy is getting a few positive kicks (the Dow climbed over 300 points today), returning to a state of steady growth will require getting the price of oil below $90/bbl.

And PUH-LEASE, don’t be distracted by these insipid claims that releasing the EMERGENCY RESERVE, which is there NOT to solve economic problems, but in case a REAL SHORTAGE occurs.  There’s not enough there to have a meaningful impact on gasoline prices AND it will only satisfy the hopes of the market and foreign interested that we are not serious about getting our oil elsewhere.  For a politician, Nancy can sure be an… oh never mind, she’s not as stupid as she acts, I know this is all part of grand Democratic scheme to manipulate us, get Dems relected, and then give us an even bigger shaft.

And as Bit says, forget about the “inflating your tires” having a big impact.  You know, when you look at the statement Obama made, the basic fact that underinflation is a factor in gas mileage.  But his contention that if “everyone did this, we would save millions of dollars” assumes that EVERYONE HAS UNDERINFLATED TIRES!  “Oh my gosh, a nation of imbeciles who can’t even keep their tires inflated properly!”  Nice.  Thanks, Barack, appreciate the vote of confidence.

Republicans will be back in the Capital protesting yet again tomorrow.  If you can help support them in this effort, please do!
