A Vile Construct

The question sounds simple enough. How do you balance the Federal budget?

Already in the midst of an epic ideological struggle, our Country’s attempt to answer this question has even further defined the massive divide in political philosophy that has beset us.

The form this divide has currently taken is the debate on whether to raise the debt ceiling and, if so, on what conditions. While this has merit as a political reality the whole discussion is a mere surface abrasion of the underlying issues—issues that can’t be solved by each side conceding a point or two and adjusting some numbers.

The real value for Conservatives in the debt ceiling debate, and all budget related squabbles, is that it exposes the Country to the true …

The DSM Register Independence Day Weekend “Progressive Trifecta” (2nd of 3)

The Des Moines Register’s Opinion Section on Sunday, July 3, 2011 featured a “Progressives Trifecta” of half-truths and sophistry:

Richard Doak – What if the founders were around today?

Donald Kaul – My favorite 4th of July speech

Dean Baker – Keep Social Security safe from politicians who want to save it

This week I will focus my comments on Donald Kaul’s article sub-titled “Real patriotism requires coming to terms with the grimmer side of American history”.

Donald Kaul – He shares viewpoints about the things he likes and dislikes about the 4th of July.  He likes back yard gatherings but he dislikes patriotic claptrap.  He likes patriotism, defined as acts of citizenship and service, but dislikes speechifying.  He likes the flag itself …

Democrats dump flags in the trash… literally.

(Cross-posted from Bitsblog)

Fox News:

John McCain’s campaign prepared to accuse Democrats on Saturday of leaving behind 12,000 miniature American flags after Barack Obama’s nomination acceptance speech last Thursday in Denver.

Boy Scouts have arrived with 84 trash bags full of bundles of flags at the site of a McCain rally scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m. local time in Colorado Springs.

The campaign says the flags were recovered from Invesco Field after the Democrats concluded their convention there, and they are going to be used as part of the warm-up ceremonies before McCain takes the stage for the rally.

FOX News has been told a vendor at Invesco Field found the flags, which were going to be thrown out, and turned them

In Other News…

Speaking of disasters, California is 49th from the last state to allow homosexuals to marry. Lots of back and forth on this… listened to some interesting discussion on the radio this afternoon (Steve Deace on WHO-AM) regarding who’s at fault… the comments stating that the California Supreme Court was not only out of line, but acting against state constitutional restrictions, and that Arnie the Governator is complicit by enforcing the ruling instead of hauling the court up for impeachment.

Also, I managed to miss a number of things. I wanted so much to do something special for Flag Day Saturday, and missed the boat (no pun intended) completely with all the flooding news spinning around. I’ll have to wait for next year. But …

How Quickly Can Obama Get Ready?

In Friday’s Wall Street Journal, Kimberly Strassel takes a careful look at the events around the Obama campaign and provides a keen analysis of his comments,  actions, and the attempts by his campaign and supporters to shore up his mistakes.

It’s apparent that BO is in need of help along the way.  But does he want that help?

Cyborg ObamaThe Illinois Senator has carried out a campaign where much of the important content, including clear readings of his positions and intentions as President, have been largely overlooked in the midst of controversy after controversy, including reviews of questionable friendships and meaningless bickering with Senator Clinton about anything they can think of.  It is incredibly amazing that both their campaigns sank so low as to make race …
