Less than 72 hours remain until the polls will close across the country, and we’re already getting plenty of messages intended to demoralize McCain supporters. DON’T LISTEN TO A WORD OF IT!
The model for this was set during the primaries… a great analysis and prediction of repeat offenses are described at the HillBuzz Blog. It’s a great read if you have time, but the point of it that they will do anything to convince you to skip voting if you’re planning to vote for McCain. Three core efforts (and tell me you haven’t seen this already) are:

Early state-by-state voting numbers are available at this link. For Iowa, we have already had nearly 340,000 votes cast this year. In 2004, there were a total of 1,521,966 votes cast, which means we’ve already seen over 20% of the 2004 total voting in the early polls! That is awesome, and again speaks to the likelihood that the numbers will likely be even higher than 2004 when the dust settles.
Out of the early numbers, registered Democrats make up 48.9% of the votes, and registered Republicans make up 28.5 (the 22.7% are independent). That does NOT mean that Obama has 49% of the vote in the early polls!

An anonymous writer at The Real Sporer Tuesday night made an interesting observation that I think we should not only understand but build an action plan upon.
At the end of the second Presidential Debate there were a few trailing comments at Ted’s site (including one from yours truly), and the final one at about 12:20 AM stated:

I find myself repeating “Maybe democrats aren’t so bad, maybe democrats aren’t so bad”. I know it’s just a psychological coping mechanism. BHO is a damn good debater. He doesn’t have much substance but unfortunately we live with at least 50.1% pinheads. I am concerned.

Today is the day we decide who will represent our parties for non-Presidential offices. Where I live (West Des Moines, Iowa District 3) we have only one race that matters for Republicans today (US Senate seat, to run against Tom Harkin… 3 candidates in the Primary: Steve Rathje, Christopher Reed, and George Eichhorn), and I believe that Democrats have just one, where the District 3 US House incumbent Leonard Boswell is being challenged by fellow Democrat Ed Fallon.
When my wife and I went to vote at noon today, I was disappointed to see only 25 people had voted before us today in our precinct. We had well over 400 people show up for the Caucus in January.

I’ve read and heard a number of conservatives (and I myself have struggled with this) who appear to be giving up on this year’s elections already. I’m disappointed. Ann Coulter certainly exuded an extreme version of the conservative angst (although she’s definitely on the wrong track by suggesting Hillary is a viable alternative to McCain). However just as effective as Coulter’s idea of supporting Clinton are the following ideas:
- Vote for any candidate on the ballot other than McCain
- Don’t vote for any candidate for President
- Skip the election altogether
