We Forgive You. Now Git.

governorsanford-officialportraitI’m saddened, frustrated , and absolutely disappointed.  The story of Mark Sanford was a roller coaster that dumped me off a cliff at the end.  Allow me to take you through this sequentially.

I’ve spent the past 36 hours dramatically changing my thoughts about how I might speak to the unusual story of South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford’s mysterious disappearance.   Mark was the head of the Republican Governor’s Association (now headed by Haley Barbour), and considered a potential candidate for the 2012 Presidential nomination.

First I thought, after hearing that he had been missing for several days after driving off in a bodyguard’s SUV, that this guy was a little weird.  I could, at that point, conceive of only one type of circumstance that might …

Jesse Helms – RIP

Former Senator Jesse Helms, Republican from North Carolina, passed away today at 86.  He joins Thomas Jefferson and John Adams as great Americans who left this life on Independence Day.

Helms held significant roles in Congress over the years, and helped move policy to the right during his tenure.

Anything else I can say has already been well written by Sister Toldjah.  She also has a number of good links.…

It’s an Obama Rout!

South Carolina has spoken, and Hillary has taken yet another set of lumps. You can see the most current delegate leaderboard (courtesy of MSNBC) in the sidebar.

From Fox News:

Barack Obama crushed top rival Hillary Clinton in the South Carolina Democratic primary Saturday, in a decisive victory that could reinvigorate his campaign after suffering back-to-back losses to the New York senator.

Clinton came in a distant second behind Obama and John Edwards took another third place slot. With 100 percent of precincts reporting, Obama had 55 percent, Clinton had 27 percent and Edwards had 18 percent.

The Palmetto State primary was the last vote for Democrats before Super Tuesday Feb. 5, when 24 states hold primaries and caucuses for both parties. Obama, who

Huck Chucks His Integrity?

To a group in Myrtle Beach, did Mike Huckabee really say:

“You don’t want people from outside the state coming in and telling you what to do with your flag,” Huckabee told an audience in Myrtle Beach. “If somebody came to Arkansas and told us what to do with our flag, we’d tell ’em what to do with the pole.”

?????

No, he could not have, could he? I’m reading this on just about every major news site… I’m flumaxed.  All of the back and forth I’m reading is about this being a racist comment, which is certainly not a big stretch, but I’ve got a bigger problem with the statement.  This is a patently offensive statement (due to the obvious unspoken innuendo) in any …

Open Thread for South Carolina Primary and Nevada Caucus

We will be posting comments here throughout the day today. I’ll be out off-line for a few hours, but will be back. Please feel free to leave comments here throughout today regarding the polling.

11:00 AM ET: Today is a big day. Sister Toldjah notes that the weather in South Carolina is wintry and may keep voting numbers down and that Ron Paul is getting as desperate as Kucinich has been by asking, at the last minute, for the Nevada Caucus to be delayed due to “inconsistencies”.

2:00 PM ET: Apparently based on exit polling only, NBC has declared Mitt Romney the winner in the Nevada Caucus. Ron Paul, who was the only Republican to do any serious advertising in Nevada, was second, …
