Biblical Worldview of ‘Walking with Dinosaurs’

Prior to the start of the school year, a parent very wisely asked me to write an article which essentially responds to the following question – “How can a Christian effectively respond to ‘Walking with Dinosaurs: The Life Experience,’ a traveling stage show which depicts dinosaurs as they lived prior to extinction?”

The “Walking with Dinosaurs” production is described by the producers as a “dazzling arena spectacle of unprecedented size and quality,” and it is scheduled in Des Moines for October 1-5 at the Iowa Events Center.

What’s the rub?!  Why any controversy?!  Dinosaurs are cool!  Dinosaurs fascinate people, particularly schoolchildren.  “There’s no harm in studying dinosaurs,” you might say.

What If They’re Wrong?

I am surprised I didn’t see more blogs lit up over this today (Allahpundit over at Hot Air did hit on it,Justice In Question though).

The Supreme Court was wrong.

That is, Anthony Kennedy, who wrote the majority opinion in Kennedy v. Louisiana, was wrong.  If you recall, Kennedy wrote in his opinion (discussed here last week) that

Thirty-seven jurisdictions—36 States plus the Federal Government— currently impose capital punishment, but only six States authorize it for child rape.

Kennedy then used this fact to establish that Congress’ lack of action to enact capital punishment for child rape reflected the country’s growing desire to treat child rapists more kindly.  I’m still gagging over that one.

On Monday, April 14, 2008, I was privileged to join a large theater audience in Des Moines for a special viewing of Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed, a documentary by Ben Stein which will premier throughout the city, starting at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 18.

Security on Monday night was tight. We were expected to show a photo ID. A man waved a wand cautiously over each individual to insure that no recording instruments would result in pirating of the film. Women could not bring their purses into the theater.
