One thing that might be interesting (though only briefly touched on) in the Yunus book is the story of his involvement in the independence of Bangladesh from Pakistan. Although I confess I am not completely in tune yet regarding all of the political details of events leading up to this weekend’s state of emergency declaration in Pakistan, I think the history of internal military action in this region (Pakistan, India and Bangladesh) makes the current events not so surprising, yet concerning for a country yet experimenting with democracy. I’m thinking I may start having fodder for a bit of a rant on how countries can succeed at building democratic forms of government … could be a long one (and not so optimistic, either). Hopefully this week.
